Video of PEMBELA’s official reaction

Filed under: Multimedia, Religion & Philosophy — menj @ 10:22 pm

Brother Yusri Mohamad, ABIM President and representative of PEMBELA, giving the official reaction to the Lina Joy judgement. Here is the video.

Like the man says, Muslims should be gracious about the judgement and not perceive it insomuch as a “victory”, but a retaining of the status quo and the reaffirmation of the existing social contract that has been established since Merdeka.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, asked “What is the point of keeping a person a Muslim if they no longer believed in the faith and made that publicly known?”

  2. Salaam ‘alaikum.

Hope you’re doing well, MENJ. Haven’t been here in a while, but I thought of you when the LJ verdict came in the other day. ;) I’ve got mixed thoughts on the verdict. While I’m happy with the result and I think some of the non-Muslim comments are a crock (reading between the lines, “the Malays still aren’t going to allow us to officially recognize any Christian converts we can ensnare, boo hoo hoo”), I’m disappointed with the ultimate outcome: LJ will almost certainly remain a Christian, insha’allah. At this point, I would expect her to flee the country, where she will no doubt be feted by the Islamophobes, who’ll happily use her to trash-talk Islam. So I see very little good coming out of this situation.
