The death of Malaysian football

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Malaysian football team. In fact, on that principle I have boycotted the EPL (because all the players in EPL only think about $$$) and the only football games that I watch are the ones of major football tournaments such as the Tiger Cup, AFC Cup, World Cup, etc. And I will always try to watch the Malaysian team on television — if they show it, that is.

You get the picture.

But the 0 - 5 drubbing from Uzbekistan is a little bit too much to take. I could probably find an excuse for that drubbing from China but Uzbekistan?? My patience as a fan has reached its limit.

Sack the whole FAM team, and bring in a new administration which does not consist of royalties and politicians.

  1. Iran is so going to rape Malaysia’s sorry ass.

  2. I was there at the National Stadium for both matches, went mad at the players especially the ineffective bald Hardi Jaafar. No worries he won’t be cursing me in the name of the biblical god and there will be no two female bears to tear us pitiful fans apart. (2 Kings 2:23-24)

I’ll be there for the Iran game because if China beat them tomorrow, we’re still mathematically alive. Stupid thoughts I know, but I’m addicted to this kind of pain.

  3. Hiya, our football standard is dropping or at best maintaining their position, but who to blame?
    FAM? players? coach?

Losing is one thing, but at least put a fight to prevent from getting mauled at home ground. sigh..

  4. Agree with you on the “sack the whole FAM” thing. As the way I see it, current FAM team is a whole lot more to blame (besides the player themselves). Maybe because starting with “allowing national player to compete in the local league even the Asia Cup is around the corner”…well, just a maybe.

  5. I blame the sacking of Allan Harris, we did not win anything under him but we didn’t get humiliated either. At home during Pre Asian Cup 2004 we beat Myanmar 4-0, drew Iraq 0-0 and drew Bahrain 2-2 (after 0-2 down). I went to every matches then, and returned home fully satisfied. The return leg in Bahrain however a different matter. At least Harris’ side knew how not to get battered at home.

  7. I admire your affection for the Malaysian football team despite the poor showing. I understand that the Tg Mahkota of Pahang quit his VP post in the FAM. About time, as I suppose no one would have dared to ask “royalty” to quit or that he was not doing a good job. The Emperor’s New Clothes comes to mind.

Malaysian football needs a long term development plan and funding to stick to this plan. The Japanese, Koreans and Chinese have made inroads into the European leagues and they did not do this overnight. Can Malaysia do the same ?

We should stop wasting money on dropping Mat Rempits in cold places, climbing mountain peaks and sending astronauts or even developing a “Sports Centre of Excellence” in the UK but concentrate on the grassroots.

Does Malaysia have world ranking athletes ? Yes, the names of Nicole David, Josiah Ng, Esther Low come to mind plus the badminton players.

But sadly, I am reminded by the words of a prominent politician who once said that it was a good thing that Vijay Singh did not become a Malaysian PR otherwise he would not have achieved his golfing dreams.
