Persekutuan Tanah Melayu, 50th Anniversary of Independence Day

Filed under: Politics & Government, Society & Culture — menj @ 11:43 am

Malaya’s 50th anniversary of Independence Day is today. Should I be elated? I do not know. While I am quietly grateful that I have lived up to this moment to witness a historic milestone, I wonder whether I will be around during Malaya’s next anniversary milestone, at its 100th? I guess we have our share of problems and difficulties throughout the course of the last 50 years. But the country has persevered throughout those years and we have made our mark on the world map. Insha’allah Malaya will remain for the next fifty years and the struggle for a just state will not end.

A very happy Independence Day occassion to all Malayans, may Allah bless this country and its people.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, there is a historical reason why I refer to the original name of Persekutuan Tanah Melayu instead of Malaysia. Historically speaking, Malaysia did not exist in 1957, it only existed on 16th September 1963.
