So I went to the International Islamic Fair 2007 at PWTC this afternoon with RM200+ in cash and I came out of the door two hours later with RM20 left. That’s how bad I am when it comes to books. I did manage to buy this very nice kupiah, which you can see me wearing here.

Yeah, if you want find a way to part me from my money and turn me into a pauper, its really relatively very easy to do. Just turn me loose into a book fair with a pocketful of money, and I will walk out of the door two hours later laden with books but with no money left.

In total, the two receipts amounts to RM237 from two major book publishers: Islamic Book Trust and Dar-us-salam Publications. But really, I don’t mind. I think what stands me out most from the Liberal Islam idiots (Deists, Libertartians, or whatever they want to label themselves) who claims themselves to be “instant experts” on Islam and make nefarious claims about the deen is that very much unlike them, I love to read.

I love reading books. Like my sister, I am a bibliaholic. I love the Harry Potter book series more than I do the movies but I’ll be damned if I am going to buy it at the absurdly high price of RM109.90. That is way too expensive for a fiction novel geared for kids and teens. I repeat, for kids and teens.
I think I will wait until this crazy mania goes down and I can actually buy the book at a far reasonable price at last. In the meantime, I will finish reading Stephen King’s Lisey’s Story which I bought a few days ago.
I bought some comparative religion books last Saturday and I am currently reading through them. The books are published by Islamic Foundation UK, with topics ranging from the Christian mission and Islamic da’wah to women’s rights in Islam. Interesting titles that I have gotten there. In fact, one of them contained an article by Dr. Ismail Faruqi entitled On The Nature of Islamic Da’wah.
I also managed to get a copy of Bart D. Ehrman’s Misquoting Jesus, of which a review of this work can be found here.
In other news, the darling has decided to take up blogging. Stay tuned on that.
Frankly I am a bit put off by the title “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”…isn’t it a bit too…childish, for me? Yeah, I know that the Harry Potter series is basically a story for children anyway, but couldn’t she come up with something grander? I mean, c’mon…even C. S. Lewis could do it.
That is not going to stop me from getting a copy, however. Of course not immediately, do you think I am daft? I am not going to blow RM100 on a hotly-contested book that just came out!

Via The Malaysian, I just found out that my favorite novelist and author, Sidney Sheldon, has passed away. I am a fan of his novels and to date, I have either bought or read a great majority of his books, minus a few titles which I am planning to get. As a matter of fact, I have been reading and rereading Tell Me Your Dreams all day yesterday and the day before. What is most intriguing about Sheldon is the way he tells the story in such a masterful way and full of suspense, that when you initially believed (or being misled to believe) that a culprit was someone, it turns out that it was someone else, usually a person very close to the main character. I love the way that he writes too…I do not claim to have been influenced by the way he writes but I do get some inspiration from his works.
In any case, the world has lost a great novelist. It will be strange to not looking forward to his works.
